Aston Martin Rapide to Race Nurburgring

Aston Martin views racing its latest production cars at Germany's famed Nurburgring as a rite of passage of sorts, so we’re not entirely surprised to hear the automaker will enter its new Aston Martin Rapide sedan in the 24-hour endurance race scheduled for May 15.

“This race represents the ultimate final engineering durability test for any sports car,” said Aston Martin's CEO, Ulrich Bez. “The Rapide has the capability to carry four people in comfort, but first and foremost it is a sports car, and we will subject it to the same tests we would our other sports cars.”

Video: 2011 BMW M5 on the Nurburgring

The new 2011 BMW M5 is caught on video here getting some laptime and testing around the Nurburgring.  Not much details have been released about the new vehicle yet, but with the rumored twin turbo V8 and turning out little less than 600hp this is sure to a be a great replacement for the current Nurburgring taxi.  Watch the video after the break.

Lexus LF-A comes back to Nurburgring 24-hour

Lexus announced today that the Lexus LF-A wil be returning this year to the Nurburgring 24 hour race. This year's participation will be part of Lexus's research and development of the Lexus LF-A sportscar prototype.

LF-A will be powered by a 5.0-litre, V10 engine that develops 500 PS. The Lexus LF-A has a front-mid-engine architecture, with a rear-mid-transaxle and a rear radiator. The Lexus LF-A carbon fiber reinforced polymer body and will be entered in the Division 2 SP8 class for 'close-to-production' engines.

Audi Announces Quartet of R8 LMS Racecars

Ingolstadt – In the course of the further development of the Audi R8 LMS, an ultimate endurance test is on the agenda for the new GT3 sports car of AUDI AG at the end of May: On May 23/24, Teams ABT Sportsline and Phoenix Racing, with "factory" support by Audi, will field a total of four vehicles in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.  Rest of the release and several more photos available after the jump.

Nissan GT-R Runs a New Record 7m 27s on the Nurburgring

It wasn't long ago that the public spitting contest between Nissan and Porsche regarding the GT-R's lap time around the famed Nurburgring was in the spotlight. Nissan started the tussle by recording an astonishing lap time of 7m 38s around the benchmark circuit and then withered this down to just 7m 29s – a full three seconds faster than the lighter and more powerful Porsche 911 GT2.  More after the jump.
