Red Bull Millen's drift car finally ready to run with Hyundai Power

The controversy after the Formula Drift event was that the Rhys Millen's new Hyundai Genesis was Nissan powered.  This was due to the late approval of the drift program meant that Millen's crew didn't have the time to finish preparing a new engine from Hyundai.

Looks like the drift car has finally received a Hyundai engine, the engine is running with mostly stock internals and its original 3.8-liter displacement. The team ran the engine on the dyno and was able to squeez out 480 hp at 4,500 rpm and 570 lb-ft of torque at 3,800 rpm through 9 psi of boost from the turbo. Expect to see the car at the next formula D championship event at Road Atlanta this weekend.

MODE Racing Hyundai Genesis

MODE Racing takes their Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T out for the first time at the Super Lap Battle in Phoenix, AZ!

MODE Racing Hyundai Genesis

With only a few days of ownership of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 T (call sign: MDR-1) the MODE Racing crew took a drive to Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix Arizona to do a quick shakedown event at the NASA Super Lap Battle Time Attack.

The MDR-1 Genesis Coupe was taken out of its trailer ready for battle equipped with only Motul Racing Fluids, Toyo R888 tires, Enkei NT03+M wheels, and an APR GTC-300 rear wing. The driver, Billy Brooks, was ready to see how the MDR-1 would stand up against the other street driven, race prepped vehicles in the paddock. After a quick stint in the autocross course at Firebird International Raceway, Billy Brooks was confident that the car will work fine on the track.  More photos and the full release after the jump.

HKS Genesis Coupe

HKS has been very active with tuning the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe

HKS Genesis Coupe

At SEMA 2008, HKS made a splash debuting their red Hyundai Genesis coupe.  We spotted photos of this white one that is looking great on Advan wheels.  It looks like HKS is sticking to marketing their parts on the Hyundai Genesis and the new platform looks to be very exciting.  These photos are from HKS Korea's website so it should be exciting times for the Korean auto manufacturer as well as the Japan-based parts manufacturer.  More photos of the car after the jump.
